Reclaimed Roofing Tiles

Reclaimed Roofing Tiles for Norfolk Properties

Norfolk’s distinctive roofscape is defined by its clay pantiles — those characteristic S-shaped tiles that have sheltered East Anglian homes for centuries. At Mooney Demolition, we hold one of the largest stocks of reclaimed roofing tiles in the region.

All our tiles are salvaged from demolition projects across Norfolk, carefully stripped, sorted and stacked at our Hockering yard. Whether you need a few dozen to repair a patch or enough to re-roof an entire building, we can help.

Types of Reclaimed Roofing Tile

Norfolk Pantiles

The iconic corrugated clay pantile is synonymous with Norfolk architecture. Our stock includes both red and black glazed pantiles in various profiles. These interlocking S-shaped tiles are lighter and faster to lay than plain tiles, and their gentle curves create the beautiful undulating rooflines that define Norfolk villages.

We carry large quantities of matching pantiles — essential when you need a consistent appearance across a roof repair or extension.

Plain Clay Tiles

Traditional flat clay tiles, also known as peg tiles or nibbed tiles. Used extensively on older Norfolk properties, particularly on steeper-pitched roofs. We stock a range of sizes and colours, from warm terracotta to weathered grey.

Plain clay tiles are the tile of choice for conservation projects and are often specified by planning authorities for work on listed buildings.

Ridge Tiles

We carry a good selection of reclaimed ridge tiles including decorative V-shaped crested ridges, half-round ridges and angular ridges. These finishing pieces are often the hardest roofing component to source, especially decorative Victorian patterns.

If you are looking for a specific ridge tile pattern to match an existing roof, bring a photo or sample to our yard and we will check our stock.

Natural Slate

Reclaimed natural slate tiles in various sizes. Welsh slate, Westmorland slate and other varieties salvaged from demolition projects. Natural slate is one of the most durable roofing materials available, and reclaimed slates have already proven their longevity over many decades.

We sort our slates by size and thickness to help you get consistent coverage across your roof.

Why Use Reclaimed Roofing Tiles?

  • Authentic appearance — weathered tiles blend seamlessly with existing roofwork
  • Conservation compliance — often required for listed buildings and conservation areas
  • Proven durability — tiles that have lasted 100+ years will last another 100
  • Environmental benefit — reusing tiles saves energy and reduces waste
  • Character — the patina of age gives your roof instant heritage appeal
  • Matching — easier to match existing tiles than finding new equivalents
  • Cost effective — often more affordable than specialist handmade new tiles

Planning & Conservation

Many Norfolk planning authorities require the use of reclaimed roofing tiles for work on listed buildings and within conservation areas. Reclaimed pantiles in particular are frequently specified to maintain the traditional character of Norfolk’s villages and towns.
